William Yost, assistant director of housing at Residence Life and Housing says the highlight of the sustainability of South Dorm’s “the digital dashboard flat panel monitor that displays building information on all four floors of the building.” This unprecedented technology is one large step towards an even greater sustainability program implemented on campus. “Students can learn about their own water and energy consumption in the building, by floor and even by floor section,” Yost said.

Rachel Cameron/Old Gold & Black

The system monitors it in a way that is easy to understand, and breaks it down into different variables, such as how much water is used compared to how many showers or how many bottles of water.” The touchscreen monitor demonstrates a campus-wide devotion to sustainability and facilitates student awareness. “With the use of the dashboards, students will visually be able to see how they are impacting consumption and hopefully will be able to learn to help reduce it,” Yost said. According to Yost, many aspects, including “sustainable philosophies” were taken into consideration during the design and construction of South Dorm.

With the dedication ribbon cutting ceremony held Aug. 16, South Dorm and its residents began a new year of sustainability that will last throughout their time at the university and beyond. The four-level, 67,000-sq.-ft. contains all double rooms for 201 residents that average about 220 sq. ft.

South Dorm was designed and built to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Design) certification according to silver level standards.

“It will really be interesting to see how consumption is affected after the first month or so, when our residence life staff does educational programming in the building to discuss and suggest ways to reduce consumption in every day routines such as unplugging cell phone chargers when not in use, turning out lights when leaving a room, and not running water while brushing teeth,” Yost explains. The education program will not only take place in South Hall though, coordinators plan to educate all campus residents on their impact of energy and water consumption.

“This is going to help students understand what it means to live in a sustainable environment,” said dean of residence life and housing Donna McGalliard. “Sustainability is not just a fad or passing trend. We want to be good stewards and teach students to be good stewards of the environment.”

Sustainability facets encompass the building, from solar panels on the roof to increased access to natural light.

University architect Ryan Swanson states that “natural light is an essential part of the design.

Double-paned aluminum windows match the style of older buildings on campus, but their high-efficiency and low maintenance provide an important energy-saving element.”

The residence hall also has energy-efficient appliances in the kitchens on each floor, high-efficiency washers in the laundry room, and thermostats that can be adjusted in individual rooms.

Students may be curious about the future of other campus buildings.

Yost assures that other residence halls will continue to receive “sustainable upgrades” in the coming years.

He explains that in the past three years, all washers and dryers and shower heads have been converted to high efficiency/low energy systems.

Additionally, dual-flush water saving toilets and lighting upgrades have been installed in multiple buildings throughout campus.

Finally, new Energy-Star rated micro-fridges have begun to be phased in throughout campus. All of these efforts will continue to make residence halls and academic buildings environment friendly.

Other sustainable facets include a solar hot water collection that occurs on the roof-mounted panels. Solar energy heats these liquid-filled tubes and will provide a sufficient supply of hot tap water for showers and sinks.

This solar energy heating system greatly reduces the amount of natural gas needed to produce hot water.

According to the architect, over 86 percent of all occupied space receives a 25-foot candle worth of daylight illumination, reducing serious electricity consumption.

Also, 50 percent of all construction material was recycled after completion.

The building contractor diverted nearly 80 percent of all waste generated during construction from the landfill.

Recycling centers for student use are conveniently located on each floor as part of the university’s ongoing commitment to reduce landfill volume. Finally, the 20 percent goal for locally sourced material within a 500-mile radius was reached and even exceeded.

South Residence Hall and its residents demonstrate an increasingly campus-wide dedication to sustainability, standing as the prime example for the university’s future in building construction and daily life.

In the first half of the game, the Deacs dominated control of the ball and tried to deliver on a penalty corner in the 23rd minute, but Iowa’s goalie saved shot attempts from both senior Liza Casella and junior Kerry Ergen.

With the conclusion of a scoreless half, sophomore Lizzie Rae, the only Deacon selected on the preseason all-ACC team, scored in the 39th minute with a feed from junior Lauren Greenwald.

Ten minutes later, the Deacs utilized a penalty corner when junior midfield/forward Faith Adams set up Rae for her second goal. The squad kept up the momentum when freshman Jess McFayden scored in her first Wake Forest appearance in the 54th minute of play.

Hawkeye Danielle Peirson answered in the following minute with a goal off of a penalty corner, but Deacon goalie sophmore Kaitlyn Ruhf stayed strong in the cage and finished the game with three saves. Concluding the game with a 3-1 victory, the Deacons were confident to take on Michigan the following day.

The Wolverines quickly asserted their dominance in the first half with nine shots and four penalty corners.

The Deacons finally rallied when junior Cristen Atchison fed a pass to freshman Kari Walkley for her first career goal to conclude the half.

In the 41st minute of the game, Michigan midfielder Vanessa Sekhon tied the game 1-1. Deacon sophomore Jillian Anzalone responded a minute later with her first career goal off a penalty corner with assists from juniors Faith Adams and Lauren Greenwald.

“When I went into the game I just wanted to show my team how much heart I can

In the 46th minute, Adams secured the Deacs with her first goal of the 2010 season, while freshman Taylor Rhea followed by scoring the final two goals of the game within four minutes of each other.

Ruhf clocked 70 minutes of play and six saves and solidified the second victory of the Deacs.

“We try to excel in things we can control and that is our tactical awareness, aggressiveness, fitness and poise,” Anzalone said.

“To get ready for UNC we are going to train like it’s any other competitor. We are going into this game with no focus on their previous titles. It’s simple: Demon Deacs vs. Tarheels. We are going to play our game Friday, and this week we’ll work on things we need to fix in order to be the best,” she said.

For over 1,000 students here at the university, this time is called “senior year.”

For over 1,000 students here at the university, this time is called “senior year.”

This is the year where many of us find ourselves scatter brained as a result of trying to finish up our final hours as undergraduates while also trying to figure out where on earth (literally) we want to be in the next year – even the next 10 years.

It all seems to come at once provided that we spent the first three years of our time in college focusing on just classes, homework, exams, jobs, friends, parties, summer internships and trying to become “real” adults all the while. Now that we have been building ourselves up to a career, it’s time to actually start one.

However, with that being said, there are surprisingly a number of students already immersed in a career. Yes, a real career is something that some of us may not be able to fathom until we have graduated.

This may make you say, “What the hell?,” but it really shouldn’t. If you really want something, there is always a way to make it tangible.

White Phoenix Research Group: For sophomore entrepreneurs James Rex and Marco Banfi, they did not want to wait to graduate to get their business started.

“We were suitemates last year; James set the platform for the initial proposal and every day, basically, we’d sit down and discuss it. It was a very interesting process,” Banfi said.

The idea for their company, White Phoenix Research Group (WPRG), LLC, initially began as research group that targeted film companies – major motion pictures and independent films – with “bubbles.”

Bubbles is a type of method that research companies use in order to gauge the reactions of audience members. In WPRG’s case, they wanted to take this method and apply it toward film trailers so that the production companies could evaluate their audience and help them create successful marketing strategies.

“We received grant money in the fall and the spring (of last year) just to do research,” Rex said. They actually received $1,800 last fall and $8,800 in the spring from the university.

“The initial idea was just to create a website where people could launch movie trailers and get a more in-depth experience by watching the interactions of audience members take place.”

For example, if a director had a trailer or an advertisement for a film he or she made, that person could send in the promo to WPRG and obtain professional market research by receiving the responses of audience members to the product.

Furthermore, the individual could also receive advice on where to take the advertising from there.

“We test different audiences and different geographical regions … and we give you the research we have based on the marketing research we’ve done ourselves,” Rex said.

“But we never like to take away the creativity of our clients; we simply advise. Our clients are certainly more than welcome to take care of their own PR without our help at all.”

Though the two have made plenty of progress with the development of their company, it’s still not off the ground yet. There are also changes being made in regard to the direction that the company is going.

“As part of our grant requirement we went to L.A. to do our research. “We essentially just made cold calls when we got there. We got some really nice people in response and some really mean ones, too. Hollywood people don’t like to quantify creativity, it seems,” Rex said.

The most successful (and beneficial) call the two made was to a man name Anthony Goldschmidt, the owner and creator of Intralink Films, a strategic marketing and creative design group specializing in entertainment and visual communication.

“He’s an interesting influence for us because he helped change our direction in how we wanted to go about getting our company started,” Banfi said.

Because the two were discouraged by the egos of individuals from Hollywood, they are in the middle of restructuring the company and taking things in a different direction that is taking time to sort out specifically.

“The ultimate desire is to sell and not take away the creativity,” Banfi said. “We’re re-doing our business and trying to figure out what we want to do financially and structurally. In a couple of months we’ll be much more clean in terms of that.”

In a bit of a different direction, senior Nolan Silverstein decided to take a screenplay he wrote in high school and help his brother out with his senior year film project at Bard College, located in the Hudson River District of New York.

“The idea behind (the screenplay) was to put a guy in the most embarrassing family ever,” Silverstein said. “He was ‘life raped,’ basically; he didn’t have a chance at having a normal life at all.”

The screenplay he wrote, Jack Jiminy: The Story of a Porn Star Extra, is about the title character’s life as the son of two former porn stars and how he was essentially forced into the porn industry.

Not as an actual “porn star,” though, just a “porn star extra” that is famous for playing the random roles needed in porn films that don’t involve anything sexually explicit.

“We made the movie under Grip Reality, Inc., and we’re located in Hockessin, Del.; we shot the whole thing for under $5,000 by casting people locally and in the New York area where my brother was going to school,” Silverstein said. “We held open cast calls and had simple advertising.”

“It was really cool to see people want to do this.

The only other things we paid for were video and audio equipment as well as transportation,” Silverstein said.

“We used someone’s high school gymnasium, someone’s house and some other random locations for filming the movie all for free.”

After having a screening here at the university, Silverstein received plenty of support for his film from his fellow classmates.

His brother, too, had the same experience back in New York.

As a result of the film’s success on an independent level, the two began looking for ways to launch it on a grander scale. By using a connection Silverstein had through a friend, he managed to hook up with Lloyd Kaufman, co-owner of Troma Entertainment.

“What drew us to Troma is that fact that they put all their movies on Google for free; they’re really into sharing your art and free media,” Silverstein said. “This group is the same one that picked up Trey Parker and Matt Stone from South Park, but it’s best known for campy horror films and what not.”

“We’re not your typical Troma film, but our main emphasis is on free media and we don’t want people having to pay for our stuff.

What we’re trying to do is exploit the internet so that we have the freedom to do what we want to do and that’s where things like Hulu are really helpful,” he said.

Over the summer, Silverstein managed to snag an internship and a contract with Troma to help further his understanding of the independent film industry as well as distribute his film on the internet and on DVD.

“We have a five to ten year deal with Troma – I’ve been wanting this for years,” Silverstein said. “They’re one of my favorite movie studios.”

According to Silverstein this experience has been a dream come true and it couldn’t have gone better.

Overall, no matter if you’re dreaming of an entrepreneurial endeavor or have a desire to make a film about a porn star extra, it is undeniably something that can be done with effort and the desire to succeed.

For over 1,000 students here at the university, this time is called “senior year.” This is the year where many of us find ourselves scatter brained as a result of trying to finish up our final hours as undergraduates while also trying to figure out where on earth (literally) we want to be in the next year – even the next 10 years.

With a surprising turn out of actors from all over – ranging from off-Broadway actors to first-timers – Silverstein and his brother, Louis, were able to create their vision of the film.

“It was really cool to see people want to do this.

Everyone worked for free in exception for meals, which we covered.

This year the Deacs fell behind early however, when Furman junior Eric Cobleigh’s header found the back of the net in the 15th minute.

The Deacons did not back down and found offense in sophomore Andy Lubahn who scored on a pass from freshman Kyle Emerson in the 35th minute.

The first half was otherwise very quiet offensively with Wake Forest only attempting one shot, which was Lubahn’s goal.

The second half saw the Paladins take the lead once again on another header, this time by freshman Michael Gandier in the 60th minute.

Needing a spark on offense in order to make a comeback, the Deacons relied once again on the strong play of Lubahn as he scored his second goal of the game, this time unassisted in a one-on-one opportunity against the keeper.

The goal, which came in the 72nd minute of the match, was Lubahn’s third goal in the past two games.

With the game tied at two goals apiece, both teams picked up the intensity level and tried to put their team ahead.

Excellent play by sophomore goalie Michael Lisch, highlighted by his diving stop of a Furman penalty kick in the 79th minute, kept the Deacons tied. In the 83rd minute the Deacons were granted their own penalty kick when sophomore Luciano Delbono was fouled inside the 18-yard box.

Sophomore Ben Newnam took the shot for the Demon Deacons and made the best of it scoring what would end up being the game-winning goal. Wake Forest was able to hold off Furman during the final minutes of the contest and come up with a win in their final exhibition match of the season. Lisch got the winning goal for the Deacons.

Senior Akira Fitzgerald did play the majority of the game in goal, allowing two goals in 71 minutes of action.

The game also saw Deacon Head Coach Jay Vidovich substitute seven players, playing 6 freshman, in an attempt to ready the team for regular season play.

“Every year they (Furman) always start the game strong and have a good crowd that makes our ability to play a bit difficult,” Vidovich said. “Even though they were up in two stages of the game, we stayed resilient and used are ability to break down teams through our defense to pull off the come from behind win. Since we are such a young team, there is a lot of potential that is still buried within us and as long as we keep working hard and dedicated at every practice, we will win both games against Seton Hall and Akron.”

The Demon Deacons will be looking to start the regular season strong as they head to Greensboro to face the Seton Hall Pirates on Sep. 3. Wake Forest is ranked third in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America preseason poll and hopes to show their talent early in the season.

The game will be the season opener for both teams and will be played at 7 p.m. at Bryan Park.

Sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Rae, from Christchurch, New Zealand, has become a standout this season on the field hockey team.Rae had 19 appearances and 18 starts for the lady Deacs in her freshman season. She was named Second Team All-South Region and earned a spot on the Gladiator by SIG/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad after leading the field hockey team with 11 goals in her first season.Additionally Rae has also been selected to play on New Zealand’s underage national team and went to nationals with New Zealand’s Canterbury Under-18 team. When and how did you start playing field hockey?I played soccer until I was about nine and then my friends introduced me to hockey and I fell in love with the speed and skill of the game. What do you find the most exciting part of field hockey? The most exciting part of field hockey is the intensity and license for creativity; it really is like no other sport. How is the sport different in New Zealand?Hockey is different in New Zealand as it is more skill based and we have more license to be creative on the field. One difference I struggled with when I first arrived at Wake was the rigidity of the sport in terms of structure and tactics. How did you find yourself at Wake Forest all the way from New Zealand?Halfway through my last year of high school I realized I wanted to experience different cultures and that playing collegiate sports in the States would be a great pathway towards this.I also had some older hockey mentors in New Zealand who had been in the States and really benefited from the experience. From there I contacted a bunch of universities, sent a video of me playing field hockey and then narrowed down my options based on my interactions with the coaching staff. How has field hockey at Wake Forest been different than your experiences in high school? The intensity is a lot higher with a greater emphasis on fitness, speed and strength. Also, training so many hours together you create this rich social atmosphere that carries greater emotions and makes you want to work that much harder for your teammates. What is it like playing on New Zealand’s underage national team?My first game for New Zealand was one of the most terrifying and awesome experiences in my life. There is nothing as uplifting as representing your country. Why did you choose to come to Wake Forest? The hardest part in coming to the States was deciding which university to go to. Ultimately, Wake’s combination of a small liberal arts college with great academic and field hockey standings came out on top. Also, one talk with my head coach, Jen Averill, I knew this would be the right place for me as she seemed so knowledgeable, but most importantly, extremely passionate for the sport and her players. What has been the most challenging aspect of your time at Wake Forest thus far?The lack of free time during season. Between training, traveling and doing school work there isn’t a whole lot of time to socialize. How would you characterize your experience playing in the ACC?The ACC is the best field hockey conference; the fierce and healthy competition on a regular basis helps our team perform to our potential. What ACC team has presented itself as the biggest threat this season? It is too early to tell who is going to be the biggest threat, but for certain UNC will be one of the toughest competitors.Do you think that your style of play has evolved since you arrived at Wake Forest?I feel I have definitely evolved on the field since being here as I have had to merge my creativity with a more controlled and disciplined style, incorporating a lot more leg work and running to be a more successful player. How would you characterize yourself as an athlete? In New Zealand, I always saw myself as a field hockey player before an athlete. Since being at Wake I have started to change this around and I realize the importance of the fitness program we have in place. If for some reason tomorrow you were no longer able to play field hockey, what would you aspire to?Field hockey is such a big part of how I define myself, that if I could no longer play, I would still have to be involved in the program here at Wake. Field hockey is about so much more than just the sport, you really learn how to manage stress and barriers in your life and I think it is important to show this to the younger generation.Do you feel like being a Division I athlete requires you to make a lot of social or personal sacrifices?Part of why I love being an athlete is that you have to make so many sacrifices both personal and social for your sport, which makes it that much more special when you succeed as you have so much more at stake.Do you have a mental routine that helps you stay focused during games?I kind of tell myself that this is a chance to be myself, this is my arena and no one is going to be better because I want the ball more than every other person. What do you find to be the biggest challenge in training? The biggest challenge in training is to try and stay positive and work hard when you are having an off day, it is the easiest thing to give up or not try your absolute hardest for the team. What do you think makes the field hockey team unique here at Wake Forest? The team culture is fantastic, I have never been surrounded with such a determined and caring team who has so much passion to play for Wake. We are unique because we play for what Wake hockey represents as an institution rather than individual players. What are your personal and team goals for this season? My goals for this season are to be the top goal scorer and help my team go all the way to the final four tournament. As always our team goal is to win NCAA and ACC championship and to always play on Sundays. Is there a particular professional athlete that you have looked up to throughout your career?Michael Jordan is someone I have always looked up to simply because he lived by the idea that you have to fail to succeed. As an athlete I fail more times than I succeed but that is why I love it because when you really accomplish your goals it is the best feeling.Who has been the most supportive person in your life throughout your field hockey career? From an early age my family was always playing competitively in the backyard which really developed my love for sports.
Rae had 19 appearances and 18 starts for the lady Deacs in her freshman season.
How is the sport different in New Zealand?

Halfway through my last year of high school I realized I wanted to experience different cultures and that playing collegiate sports in the States would be a great pathway towards this.

I also had some older hockey mentors in New Zealand who had been in the States and really benefited from the experience.

What is it like playing on New Zealand’s underage national team?

My first game for New Zealand was one of the most terrifying and awesome experiences in my life.

What has been the most challenging aspect of your time at Wake Forest thus far?

The lack of free time during season. Between training, traveling and doing school work there isn’t a whole lot of time to socialize.

How would you characterize your experience playing in the ACC?

The ACC is the best field hockey conference; the fierce and healthy competition on a regular basis helps our team perform to our potential.

What ACC team has presented itself as the biggest threat this season?

It is too early to tell who is going to be the biggest threat, but for certain UNC will be one of the toughest competitors.

Do you think that your style of play has evolved since you arrived at Wake Forest?

I feel I have definitely evolved on the field since being here as I have had to merge my creativity with a more controlled and disciplined style, incorporating a lot more leg work and running to be a more successful player.

How would you characterize yourself as an athlete?

In New Zealand, I always saw myself as a field hockey player before an athlete. Since being at Wake I have started to change this around and I realize the importance of the fitness program we have in place.

If for some reason tomorrow you were no longer able to play field hockey, what would you aspire to?

Field hockey is such a big part of how I define myself, that if I could no longer play, I would still have to be involved in the program here at Wake. Field hockey is about so much more than just the sport, you really learn how to manage stress and barriers in your life and I think it is important to show this to the younger generation.

Do you feel like being a Division I athlete requires you to make a lot of social or personal sacrifices?

Part of why I love being an athlete is that you have to make so many sacrifices both personal and social for your sport, which makes it that much more special when you succeed as you have so much more at stake.

Do you have a mental routine that helps you stay focused during games?

I kind of tell myself that this is a chance to be myself, this is my arena and no one is going to be better because I want the ball more than every other person.

Is there a particular professional athlete that you have looked up to throughout your career?

Michael Jordan is someone I have always looked up to simply because he lived by the idea that you have to fail to succeed. As an athlete I fail more times than I succeed but that is why I love it because when you really accomplish your goals it is the best feeling.

Who has been the most supportive person in your life throughout your field hockey career?

From an early age my family was always playing competitively in the backyard which really developed my love for sports. Also, my parents have made so many sacrifices so that I could have every opportunity that I asked for and have given me constructive guidance throughout my career.

If you could visit one place in the world where would it be?

My freshman season was a struggle; I was recovering from a stress fracture and my fitness and skills were definitely not up to my expectations.

The legendary University of Alabama head football coach Bear Bryant once spoke to the popularity of college football stating, “It’s kind of hard to rally around a math class.”

There are probably a few Wake Forest students who would be willing to argue against Coach Bryant’s statement, as it is nearly impossible for the typical Wake student to disguise their deeply rooted inner nerd.

From Civil War history and Lockean political theory, to the inner-workings of managerial accounting, throughout the workweek, and sometimes on weekends, Wake Forest students think, talk and breathe their courses.

But where is the escape? When do we sever the binds of Wake Forest’s competitive academic environment and instead relish in the less scholarly, but arguably more important aspect of college: football?

As many Wake Forest students, faculty, staff and alumni have noticed in recent years, no matter how well the Demon Deacons are playing on the gridiron, the stands at BB&T Field are rarely packed.

Especially after the recent expansions to the football stadium, if the bleachers aren’t bloodied with Cornhusker red or overflowing with down-home Hokie fans, then our players are looking up to the stands for motivation and celebration only to find specks of gold and black floating in a vast pool of steel benches and concrete.

Of course there are hundreds of students each year who sign up for Screamin’ Demons and fill the eastern stands with cheers, expletives and Wake Forest garb galore.

There are also the faithful local families and Wake Forest alumni who come to the stadium in Demon Deacon-themed school buses and RV’s to show support for our team.

Yet, when I turn on the television to watch the University of Georgia Bulldogs, the only SEC team I can feign support for, I shutter at how spirited and downright outrageous the students are as they rally support around their football team.

Even into the fourth quarter, when the Dawgs are down by 17, the stands are still packed with unconditionally faithful students that love their team and university far too much to even imagine vacating the premises to go elsewhere.

UGA might have almost ten times as many students that WFU has, but this comparison still suggests that there is a certain faithfulness to college football that can be found all over the United States that the student body here at Wake Forest has never truly fully bought into.

Perhaps we could blame the Greeks, who come to games in their best pastels, inhabit the top left corner of the stands for the first half, then disappear to nurse on a beer as soon as the going gets rough.

It is also tempting to just ignore our lack of football spirit and proclaim instead that, as long-time residents of Tobacco Road, we’re a “Basketball School” and Tie Dye Nation is proof enough of our love for the Demon Deacons. Fortunately, this year, Wake Forest Athletics has taken a look at the policies for student football and basketball tickets and revised them to counteract the tides of Wake Forest culture that push students away from the stands.

These changes to the policies regarding student ticket acquisition include an end to the mandatory Screamin’ Demon shirt policy, an end to the required attendance policy and a system that allows students who do attend a lot of games to earn the right to have better seats throughout the football and basketball seasons.

Students will also be allowed to re-enter the football stadium this fall, giving them the freedom to go back to the parking lot to tailgate during halftime or do anything they might need to do outside the stadium that otherwise would have prevented them from returning or coming to the game at all.

There are also a lot of exciting opportunities for students to form tailgating groups and compete against others to win prizes and privileges, something that is sure to encourage other athletic teams, clubs and Greek organizations to participate.

It would be dishonest for me to say that I have high hopes for the upcoming football season given the number of excellent athletes that we have lost to the NFL or the real world in the past few years. However, I have a lot of faith in Wake Forest Athletics’ newly designed policies and do believe that it is possible for Wake Forest students to be as spirited and supportive of our football team as UGA’s student body is.

It will definitely take time and a serious overhaul of the Lilly Pulitzer/Vineyard Vines pastel norm amongst students in order for our stadium to truly glow with the passion and support that our football players deserve. But, if you take a look at Wake Forest Athletics’ efforts to encourage students to support our university’s athletic endeavors this fall, you too will see that there is a bright future ahead for the student fans of the Demon Deacons.

Hey there single, I’ve got great news for you.

Hey there single, I’ve got great news for you.

You are a female, and as such for every 100 of you that are born, that means there were 107 boys born.

This means that it is impossible for you, as a woman, to be left out. Don’t worry about those seven men though, they are usually dwarves and end up sharing one woman somewhere in the forest.

My only question to you is, why are you reading this if there is so much man-meat available? Are you feeling a little worried about what you future may hold? Curious how you are going to choose among such a wide variety of males? Great, because this guide will bring confidence to any woman with these problems, guaranteed. *

Appearance 33 percent (all or nothing): A man’s appearance is very important to a woman, and I quote: “And we’ll kick them to the curb, ‘less they look like Mick Jagger” –Ke$ha. So stop, give your subject a good up-down look. If he catches on, you might want to ask him to give a little spin to check out the backside.

If he looks athletic but you aren’t quite sure, it may just be a cover. Carry a football around with you whenever you are looking for males, if you run into one of these crafty body types, throw the ball at him. If he drops it, there is no chance he is has a six pack other than the one in his b-ridge.

Also, some women find it important that their male is a certain height, in fact 95 percent of sperm donors are 5-foot-10-inches or taller (MANswers).

So how tall do you like your men? This is important because it is different for every girl.

If you want shorter guys (anything smaller than 6’), perhaps crouch or kneel at parties in order to get to eye level with them.

It can be very intimidating for one of these short guys to have to look up to talk to a woman, also depending on your breast size it may be impossible for the two of you to make eye contact.

For taller men, start attending basketball games or volleyball tournaments. Focus your attention on the centers or forwards, they tend to be the taller players, although you may need to exchange the football mentioned earlier for something more towards their athletic tastes.

Finally, take a good look at his dome piece. This is the thing you have to look at, talk to, and show your sisters on Facebook.

His face is like his finger prints, that is how you are going to distinguish him from all the other guys you will probably meet while single. The only exception is if you happen to meet twins, in which case the only way of telling them apart is their finger prints.

Nonetheless, look at his face; does he look like a famous actor’s? As long as it’s not Forest Whitaker, he has passed this test.

Functionality 33 percent: Ok, now that he is attractive enough to talk to, let’s figure out if he’s more than just a pretty face. Most women will tell you that they like having a man around for protection, stability and a source of entertainment. We are going to tackle these one by one by one.

It’s a hard knock life out there, and it’s nice to have someone to ensure the sun will come up tomorrow.

Therefore, you want to have someone around to protect you, and hopefully yo’ man can do this job.

Punch him in the arm jokingly. If he says “Owwy,” winces or tells you that’s his baking arm, he is not going to offer you any protection.

A stable man is not just a man who works with horses. You want a guy you can depend on to be there day and night. Take the guy from Twilight for example. He is a vampire and therefore cannot interact during the daytime.

Although he seems to match many of the categories we are discussing, the relationship is doomed because he is half as reliable as a non-vampire person.

Also, he is a character in a movie which gives him the added difficulty of not being real.

Hence, when choosing a man look for real life non-vampires because they are highly dependable in comparison to Hollywood vampires.

Finally, your man should be able to entertain you.

This is a highly specified category, ergo this guide will merely supply a list of entertaining males: clowns, comedians, actors (non-vampire), drag-queens, the guy in the pasta line at the pit, magicians, ventriloquists, magical ventriloquists, magical drag-queen ventriloquists (the hardest word to try and spell three times).

Intellectual 33 percent: This is a difficult category, because intelligence is so much of a preference for women.

Some women are dominating, others like to be led.

Depending on which type you are, this guide has a solution for you.

If you enjoy calling the shots, knowing your boyfriend’s Facebook password or telling people “this is how it’s going to be,” then you are a dominating personality.

You should probably find a man who is a lot dumber than you. Smart guys will only argue with you, and this will only frustrate you.

Find a C student (in terms of their average, not someone who gets one C because they had a hard semester; it’s understandable that an intelligent person is still intelligent even if complications led to a lower than average grade), and be happy.

If you enjoy only speaking when spoken to, calling your man ‘daddy’, or own a pair of handcuffs, you are probably a follower.

Find someone who is intelligent, because you don’t want to worry yourself with scary decisions.

Let him take care of everything, but make sure you are not an opinionated woman, because you will probably not be listened to.

Einstein’s wife had opinions too, and she was cheated on for nine years until he married another woman.

When people heard Lambda Chi Alpha was bringing Sam Adams to campus, a general hum of excitement buzzed through the student population.

When people heard Lambda Chi Alpha was bringing Sam Adams to campus, a general hum of excitement buzzed through the student population. Before the academic school year even began, flyers could be seen attached to vacant walls or tables announcing Sam Adams’ anticipated arrival to campus on Aug. 25.

By the time the performance date arrived many students had bought their pre-sale tickets and a large majority was probably looking up Sam Adams’ songs online to see what all the hype was about.

When the night of the performance arrived many were surprised to see Lambda Chi junior, Harrison White, on stage serving as the opening DJ.

Thirty minutes before the show, Sam Adams’ DJ encountered problems with his equipment causing the Lambda Chi treasurer, Curt Kelliher, to rush White back to the stage. Despite the short notice, White kept the audience occupied and entertained by concluding that “teaching everyone to Dougie would make everything alright,” and so it did.

When Sam Adams took the stage 45 minutes after his scheduled time, his performance was on par with what was anticipated of him.

While many rappers create beats and works of art discussing the trials of life and love, Sammy Adams creates remixes about getting laid, drinking out of kegs and popping champagne. The lyrics of Adams’ most popular songs expel catchy beats that have become party staples across the country, yet lacks the poetry and depth that the genre’s most memorable artists invoke.

His age proximity to the audience was made apparent when he led us in chants against UNC and Duke and asked if we were allowed to drink at his concert. It’s no wonder that Adams collects the majority of his fan base from college students.

These contagious beats, with their ability to stick in our heads for days, are played throughout parties and all over national radio.

Adams lives the life he describes in his hit, “Coast to Coast,” of “lifestyle switchin” between being a senior at Trinity, serving as captain of the Trinity school soccer team and living the life of a budding performer.

Needless to say, Adams is not the most gifted performer that has set foot on campus.

At times he was out of sync with his DJ, the sound volume was off or his lyrics just became a jumble of inaudible words.

He hit a low point in my book when he attempted a Bassnectar rendition, which was more of an insult to the original artist than collaboration.

However, despite my lack of zeal for the performance, the people around me seemed satisfied by the act.

Thirty minutes after hopping on stage, Adams exited, which seems awfully short for a $10-15 ticket. Even so, I heard few complaints from the crowd.

In the end, the event was an exciting way to kick off the school year.

It was a good night to be out, people shouldn’t have been overwhelmed by work yet, and who doesn’t like dancing to a song that goes, “I hate college but I love the parties?”

Adding up all of these factors, the night was always bound to be a success.

In addition to the entertainment value that people received from the night, the event was a huge accomplishment for Lambda Chi.

With over 2,000 people attending the concert, Lambda Chi was able to donate about $10,000 to their philanthropy, the Second Harvest Food Bank in Winston-Salem.

Rumor has it that Na Palm and Sam Adams had a good stay here and would not be hesitant to return upon request.
