John Boehner, Please

boehnerHouse Minority Leader John Boehner doesn’t appear to get out much. Although, if the only place he’s hanging out is “tea parties” then maybe I can understand his recent statement:

“I’m still trying to find the first American to talk to who’s in favor of the public option, other than a member of  Congress or the administration” said Boehner, whose sole recent foray into a public discussion of health care reform was a tea-party-style event in Ohio a few weeks back. “I’ve not talked to one and I get to a lot of places,” he told reporters at his weekly press availability. “I’ve not had anyone come up to me — I know I’m inviting them — and lobby for the public option.”

Not only is there an overwhelming majority of Americans that support a public option (I have mentioned this several times), but this even includes a majority of citizens in Ohio, Boehner’s home state. You think he hasn’t seen these numbers? Of course he has. This is the kind of intellectual dishonesty we’re working with from the opposition in Washington. It’s not about health care reform to them, they’ve already made that abundantly clear. It’s about halting Obama’s agenda at every possible turn in order to score political points. Their refusal to even support a bill minus a public option just proves my point. Conservatives have given very little cooperation and even fewer votes toward vital reform this country needs.
