Digging the Discounts

All of the deals that happen on Black Friday are hard to catch, and sometimes it’s not worth standing in a huge line for 13 hours just to buy a digital camera.  There are special sales that big name companies and lesser known companies run on Cyber Monday. For instance, Best Buy won’t necessarily run a 62” plasma TV for $300, but they will slash some of their prices on movies, cameras and computers.  But many clothing stores will have incredible steals on Cyber Monday.

Here are some Web sites for Cyber Monday:

BananaRepublic.com | OldNavy.com | Gap.com

As a bonus, Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic are all under one company, so it makes shipping and ordering so much easier!

Don’t forget about the department store Web sites.  They carry a lot of sale items that are not available in stores. Be sure to keep these in the back of your mind when you are looking for a new coat or a cute pair of shoes. Sometimes these department stores just want to get rid of their merchandise so they will slash their prices really low.
Here is a list of Web sites that literally make my heart skip a beat because the deals are so good:

AnnTaylorLoft.com | VictoriasSecret.com | JCrew.com

LuLu has an excellent variety of inexpensive clothing. The dresses and skirts are very cute for everyday-class wear, and there are even some dresses that are definitely holiday party worthy.
You can buy basically anything you want on Overstock. I’ve found some great deals on dresses, and they always have very low shipping!

Overstock.com | Lulu.com

The following Web sites are awesome; they have a different deal every day.  For example, one day last week you could buy a North Face rain jacket for $80. There are also separate “woot” sites for wine, T-shirts and kids’ stuff.

Steapandcheap.com | Woot.com

While the following two aren’t shopping Web sites, they do have some good deals.  They are technically fashion blogs but every day, they display a new deal.  Runway Rundown and The Look 4 Less offer a little bit more pricey items, but they both offer cheaper versions of their designer counterparts.

Fred Flare houses excellent unique and fun gifts.  They aren’t very expensive, and they are always sure to bring a smile to your face. The clothes on the Web site are excellent and very trend conscious.

As student, we generally wouldn’t look to these Web sites because they seem too “mom-ish,” but to be completely honest with you, LL Bean and Land’s End have excellent deals on your basic wardrobe essentials.  Both of these companies provide great quality, staple pieces. Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe sometime contain items of clothing or shoes online that are not available in stores. And sometimes, these online only items are much nicer than their store counterparts.

I would be lying to everyone if I didn’t put eBay on this list. You can buy almost anything on this Web site and it’s all run by customers. This Web site is excellent, especially if you are looking for a unique gift. Remember, clothing stores receive a new shipment of clothing at least two times per season.  If you really like a skirt on the Banana Republic Web site but it’s too expensive, be on the lookout for a drop in price in the coming weeks.
Here is a list of the few sample sale Web sites that I absolutely adore.  Keep in mind that these are invitation only Web sites, so e-mail me if you would like to get an invite (patena8@wfu.edu).

These sample sale Web sites offer designer clothing for a really low price. For instance, I purchased a $400 Lilly Pulitzer dress for $80 last year.  I think that purchase made my whole week.  I also bought a $450 piece of Matt & Nat luggage for around $120.

There are good deals on these Web sites, and if you sign up for their e-mails, they will tell you on Monday what sample sales they have lined up for the week.

Gilt.com | Ruelala.com | Hautelook.com | Juxzy.com

With all of the added shipping and handling fees, your “sale” items can get expensive.  My one last piece of advice is to make a separate e-mail account.  Use this account to sign up for coupons and online deals.

Check this e-mail once a day or every two days to ensure that the coupons don’t expire.  This way, your main e-mail inbox will remain uncluttered.
