Snowmageddon and Global Warming

inhofeWith the occurrence of particularly strong snow storms that have hit the east coast this past week, conservatives and Republican lawmakers seem to be taking this as further “evidence” against the supposed fraud that is global warming. Senators Jim Inhofe, Jim DeMint, Fox News’ Sean Hannity and others have used this as an opportunity for political cheap shots against Al Gore and other proponents of this theory (majority of scientists). For anyone that actually cares about science or reality, however, this is hardly any kind of evidence or smoking gun against the idea of global warming. What conservatives are ignoring, no matter how many snow storms we have or asinine comments they make, is that we have just experienced the hottest decade on record. Not to mention that the theory on global warming actually assumes stronger winters. That’s why many choose to refer to it as “climate change” instead of global warming so that morons like them don’t brush it off every time we have a cold day. If you’re a conservative or Republican, I don’t know how you can be proud of this approach toward environmental policy and concerns. Not only opposing science, but being proud of it.

Look, even if you’re skeptical about all the claims and evidence regarding global warming, which I don’t really worry that much about. You can even be one of these avid deniers if you want, I’m much more worried about economic issues and health care right now. Even if you don’t agree about the theory of global warming, can’t we at least agree on the benefits of attempting to solve it? Less pollution, cheaper, cleaner energy, less dependence on foreign entities, etc. It’s a win-win environmentally, economically, and even helps with issues of national security. Conservatives will justify torture, in case of a “ticking time bomb” situation. Why don’t we start considering the Earth a “ticking time bomb” for once (metaphorically)? The majority of the evidence points in this direction. Even though we haven’t gotten to the bottom of this completely, I don’t see any harm in moving towards solving this problem, considering it’s all stuff we would want to do anyway. And best of all, no one has to be waterboarded!
