OGB wins second place at ACP’s

We were happy to hear that the OGB received second place in the best in show category on Feb. 28 at the Associated Collegiate Press conference in Phoenix, Ariz.
This is especially exciting because we did not place last year.
We also do not have a journalism major at the university, making this a greater accomplishment. In contrast, the winning school, California State University at Chico, not only has an extensive journalism program but also has a student body of 15,797, compared to Wake Forest’s 4,569.
Additionally, we chose to submit the last issue printed before the conference instead of going through every issue since the last conference and picking the best one.
This means they judged us on a standard issue of the OGB. We have a very young staff, with five new editors to their respective sections, which means that the quality of our paper will continue to get better. We hope that our award will encourage the community to read the paper every week.
