Dorito’s completed my Superbowl
Posted on February 8, 2010 at 9:24 pm by Caitlin Williams
Along with the myriad of epic beer commercials, Doritos did not fall short in the face off of advertisement during the Saints Colts Superbowl Sunday night. Not to offend anyone but I believe in telling the truth and the truth is I only watched the game for the commercials. Shout out to Tang for the snack insanity and anyone else who went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure happiness when it came to wings, pizza, cup cakes, spinach dip and all the other stuff I ate too much of. What a fatty for going on about food. Close enough; Dorito’s had me laughing out loud to “House Rules”a.k.a. Dorito slap (favorite), “Casket” (second favorite) , ”Snack Attack Samurai” and “Underdog”. The best thing about these commercials, besides the humor, is the fact that they were consumer-created. Serious about our snacks much? (also I hate when people put ‘much’ at the end of sentences)

AMICLUBWEAR
Posted on February 8, 2010 at 4:52 pm by Caitlin Williams
From Heels under $ 15 to cosmetics and costumes amiclubwear.com is “a positive place for girls”. I know this is a bad habit but whenever I’m bored I find myself online ‘window’ shopping with the credit card at hand just in case I come across a must have. Promoted in Seventeen magazine, amiclubwear’s site has some good deals if you’re willing to look. Here are some things that caught my eye.
Brown Beige Fringe EternityScarf 15.99
Taupe Faux Suede Slouchy Bow Flat Casual Boot ($9.99 currently out of stock)
Navy Strapless Tube Crop Pant Romper Outfit $29.99

Free Stuff: Denny’s Grand Slam
Posted on February 8, 2010 at 2:51 pm by Caroline Hallemann
College students are notorious for being broke, so keeping that in mind, how far are you willing to go for a free meal? If your personal limit is more than 14 miles, you’re in luck. Denny’s is once again hosting their Superbowl Grand Slam promotion. Tomorrow, February 9, from 6 a.m.-2 p.m. Denny’s across the country will be offering one free breakfast Grand Slam per customer. Only problem: the closest Denny’s is in Kernersville, approximately 25 minutes from campus. The price of gas to get there just may exceed the $6 price tag of the Grand Slam. Are free eggs, bacon and pancakes worth the trek?

Advertisements for My Generation

Every non-fan knows the Super Bowl is more about the entertainment than the athletes. The actual game is just a break from viewers to refill on chili and beer between commercials and the half-time show. This year was no different with a performance by The Who and multitudes of funny commercials. In case you missed it, check out the halftime show and vote for your favorite Super Bowl Commercials here:

Big Game Menu
Posted on February 7, 2010 at 1:12 pm by Caroline Hallemann

Today is Super Bowl XLIV, and in case you don’t understand Roman Numerals that translates to funny commercials, good food and the Saints dominating Peyton Manning. Well, the last is more of a hopeful thought than a direct translation, but hey, a girl can dream. Here are just a few recipes from Food Network to try out at your football fiesta this year:
Buffalo Wings
Ingredients:
12 whole chicken wings (about 3 pounds)
3 ounces (6 tablespoons) unsalted butter
1 small clove garlic, minced
1/4 cup hot sauce
Kosher salt
Directions:
Place a 6-quart saucepan, with a steamer basket and 1 inch of water in the bottom, over high heat, cover and bring to a boil.
Remove the tips of the wings and discard or save for making stock. Use kitchen shears or a knife to separate the wings at the joint. Place the wings in the steamer basket, cover, reduce the heat to medium and steam 10 minutes. Remove the wings from the basket and carefully pat dry. Lay out the wings on a cooling rack set in a half sheet pan lined with paper towels and place in the refrigerator to dry, about 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Remove the paper towels on the pan and replace with parchment paper. Roast on the middle rack of the oven, about 20 minutes. Turn the wings over and cook 20 to 30 more minutes, or until the meat is cooked through and the skin is golden brown.
While the chicken is roasting, melt the butter in a small bowl with the garlic. Pour this along with the hot sauce and 1/2 teaspoon salt into a bowl large enough to hold all of the chicken and stir to combine. Remove the wings from the oven, transfer to the bowl and toss with the sauce. Serve warm.

Potato Skins
Ingredients:
6 small baking potatoes
2 tablespoons melted butter
2 teaspoons seasoned salt
3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
4 strips cooked, crumbled bacon
3/4 cup Daisy Brand Sour Cream
2 teaspoons snipped fresh chives
Directions:
Lightly grease outside of potatoes, cut small slit in top and bake at 425 degrees F for 45 minute or until soft. Let stand until cool enough to handle, about 15 minutes.
Cut potatoes in half lengthwise and scoop out cooked potato, leaving a very thin layer of potato. (Save cooked potato for mashed potatoes or hash browns.)
Brush outside and inside of skins with melted butter. Sprinkle inside with steak seasoning and Parmesan cheese.
Place on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 8 minutes or until crisp and bubbly.
Fill with cheddar cheese and bacon. Bake 3 minutes or until cheese is melted. Top with a dollop of sour cream and sprinkle of chives.
Variation: Twice Baked Potato Fingers Bake 3 large (about 5-inch) potatoes for 1 hour; cool. Cut in half lengthwise, and then lengthwise in half again, making 12 long fingers. Scoop out and proceed as above.
If all else fails, give Wingzone a call– they deliver! And tune into the game– Kickoff is at 6:25 p.m. on CBS.

Retaliation: Jon Stewart.
Posted on February 6, 2010 at 6:13 pm by Paige Daniel
As you may have heard, Jon Stewart was recently a guest on The O’Reilly Factor. This airing on Fox News created a lot of buzz and, of course, Stewart retaliated to the show and then O’Reilly retaliated to Stewart.

I like Tuh’tles
Posted on February 4, 2010 at 4:04 pm by Caitlin Williams
I know I’m not the only one who cried when I first saw this. A couple of months later and I’m still amused by the ‘I like turtles’ sensation. I think the video speaks for itself. If you haven’t witnessed this phenomena you must stop everything that you are doing including reading the rest of this blog and… (you should no longer be reading at this point). Station KGW-TV who originally interviewed Zombie boy had to do a follow up story after the shocking amount of attention the video received. The face-painted ten year old admits he was nervous and just blurted something out. I am so grateful he did because now in awkward situations instead of saying ‘awkward’ (which i hate and only makes the situation more awkward) I can say “I like turtles” and life will be amazing.

What not to Wear in the Snow
Posted on February 3, 2010 at 6:39 pm by Caitlin Williams
The recent wintry weather has had me concerned. Yes the roads are dangerous, Yes I wish I was out of class like everyone else but most importantly I have seen a nice number of unfortunate souls bust their…uhm butts. Sorry if you are one of those people; if it makes you feel any better I’ll probably fall on the quad next time the snow blows in. One night I saw this girl wipe out in lot Q…Hilarious, because her friends just laughed at her and i didn’t hear any infamous “Are you Okay”s. I attribute this to the ice of course but I also think that there are right and wrong things to wear in the snow to prevent embarrassment. First of all I just want to throw this out there that a combination of Ugg boots and shorts do not constitute pants. However this is irrelevant. Secondly I don’t own a pair of UGGs so I suppose I wouldn’t know. Now on a serious note, Ballet flats in my opinion are a sure way to freeze your toes off, get your feet wet and slip in front of anyone you’re trying to look cute for. Ugg boots although related to snow boots are not supposed to be worn in significantly muddy or wet conditions unless you have intentions of ruining them. In addition Ive seen too many of my friends slip while wearing them. Either that says something about their shoes or maybe I just have clumsy friends. Ive been wearing tennis shoes and I still find myself walking extremely cautiously. Rain-boots are a YES in terms of wet conditions but as far as stability is concerned are a bit slippery. I suppose unless we have spikes on the bottom of our shoes we are all out of luck. Just be cautious out there and take your time walking to class, it’s a great excuse for being late.
I want to add that this is really jacked up.

Forever 21’s Him/Her option
Posted on February 3, 2010 at 5:32 pm by Caitlin Williams
Trying to find my Valentine a gift has been, a failure. I’m broke first of all and second of all its so easy to find things targeting females for the holiday that the boys get swept under the rug. While my ’sweet’ and I have decided to put our money together and go on a trip Ive found a nifty Him/Her option on Forever 21’s website. Your b.f.’s gift could be a click away and best of all, wont have you making life decisions at the cash register, like “this Cargo Pocket Jacket or eating the next week’”(hate it when that happens).

Thank You Tee $14.90
